I use shibori techniques before dyeing fabric. Shibori is a method of manipulating cloth for dyeing that started in Japan in the 8th century. Binding, stitching, folding, twisting, pleating, pressing, wrapping, and coiling are all shibori techniques that result in different patterns. Shibori techniques can be combined to achieve unlimited textures and patterns. In the West, shibori is known as tie-dye.
